To work in a state of the art communication center at the Public Safety Center located at 510 10th Street.
The hiring process consist of the following requirements:
Initial Interview, typing exam, and Background Screening.
Pay will be based on your experience and GA POST certifications.
Emergency Communication Officer 1 The Entry level position into the Columbus Police Department 911 Communication Center is Emergency Communication Officer 1.
The position starting salary is $41,563.
75annually.
Emergency Communication Officer 2 The Lateral level position into the Columbus Police Department 911 Communication Center is Emergency Communication Officer 2.
To enter this position the individual needs to show proficiency in the 911 operations or POST certification.
The position starting salary is $43,226.
30 annually.
Emergency Communication Officer 3 The Supervisory position in the Columbus Police Department 911 Communication Center is Emergency Communication Officer 3.
This position the individual needs to be proficiency in all of 911 communication operation be POST certified.
The position starting salary is $44,510.
25 annually.
Major Duties and Responsibilities Answers 911 calls.
Question callers to determine the nature of their emergency.
Enters calls into the computer system.
Enters Emergency Medical Dispatch calls into the system.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
Skill in the operation of computers and other standard office equipment.
Skill in interpersonal relations.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Minimum Educational and Training Requirements Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.

and no felony convictions.
Must be able to type a minimum of 35 words a minute with 90% accuracy.
No experience requirements.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain GCIC/NCIC certification.
Ability to successfully complete a basic Emergency Dispatch Course.
Ability to successfully complete a basic Emergency Medical Dispatch Course.

The work is typically performed in a computer room where the employee may be exposed to noise.
The job requires 12-hour shifts with rotating off days.
