ThePrinting Press Operator runs sheet-feed presses and collects data to evaluate the performance and consistency of lithographic printing plates for the quality department here in Columbus, Georgia.
The operator is a member of a team working in a quality assurance laboratory environment.
Press jobs consist of standardized tests performed using specific procedures run under tightly controlled conditions.
The press operator performs measurements and collects data throughout each test.
Following each evaluation, the operator enters data into a database along with pertinent observations to generate a test report.
The operator is also responsible for performing basic maintenance and troubleshooting on the presses and other equipment.
The operator will also periodically assist in analyzing printing issues reported by customers as well as support of the local research and development team by performing printing tests and drawing upon their printing experience.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Qualified candidates will have:
Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
Microsoft Office suite experience preferred.
Ability to safely lift 50 pounds.
Ability to work rotating shifts when necessary (typically day shifts), including the ability to work weekends.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
High motivation with a desire to work and succeed in a challenging 24/7 production environment.
Prior experience directly operating commercial lithographic printing presses is highly desired.
Demonstrated knowledge of ink/water balance.
Demonstrated knowledge of maintaining fountain solution system.
Prior experience in manufacturing, development, or technical support of litho plates is preferred.
AAS Degree in Printing Technology preferred.
Ability to detect and classify cosmetic/functional defects on plates.
The ideal candidate should also possess the following:
Minimum 5 years running sheet-fed presses.
Experience running Heidelberg SM-52 and or SX-52 presses is highly desirable.
Demonstrated knowledge of general press maintenance/settings; change/set rollers, change/pack blankets, set/adjust feeder rollers and weekly/monthly/yearly maintenance.
Demonstrated knowledge of general press room equipment; packing gauges, durometers, densitometers, pH/conductivity meters and torque wrenches.
