Occasional evening and weekend shifts required.
(Will be on-call after hours to respond to emergencies) This position is considered essential to the operation of the Airport.
Extended hours may be required to serve the needs of the Columbus Airport beyond regular business hours during Airport Emergencies, Government-issued states of emergency, weather events, public health emergencies, and/or pandemics.
Temporary duties outside of regularly assigned jobs may be required to fill the needs of the Columbus Airport.
Responsibilities:
This is a skilled position that requires attention to detail, flexibility, a strong personal work ethic, the ability to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow.
Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, bend squat, stoop, reach overhead, push, pull for extended periods.
Must be capable of lifting at least 75 lbs.
This position performs daily airfield inspections including movement and non-movement areas and perimeter fences.
This position operates a variety of vehicles, tractors, mowers, cutters, and other outdoor equipment.
This position is responsible for applying herbicide and pesticide using a variety of hand-held sprayers and mechanical equipment.
This position has no Supervisory or Budgetary responsibilities.
This position reports directly to the Airfield Operations Supervisor while working alongside other Airfield Maintenance Specialists.
Principle Duties:
Documents, reports, and repairs airport-owned NAVAID including lights, signs, and windsocks.
Rehabilitates, cleans, repairs, and re-marks pavement using a variety of hand tools and machinery.
Reports and documents the presence of wildlife on the airfield.
Conducts and documents daily CFR Part 139 inspections on the airfield.
Conducts FOD removal operations using a variety of machinery and equipment.
Operates power equipment and heavy machinery as required in the maintenance of airport-owned buildings, grounds, roadways, runways, taxiways, and aircraft aprons and ramps.
Performs routine and preventative maintenance on various airport equipment and vehicles.
Performs custodial duties as required.
Escorts contractors, vendors, and probationary workers.
Performs other duties as required and assigned by Management.
Skills and
Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of low voltage and high voltage airfield electrical systems, signs, and lights.
Proactive solutions-based troubleshooting skills.
Skilled in the operation of grounds equipment and heavy machinery.
Skilled in the operation of herbicide mixing and application.
Skilled in basic fencing repair methods.
Thorough knowledge of wildlife mitigation techniques and methods.
Thorough knowledge of airport safety, CFR Part 139, and operational procedures.
Basic knowledge of carpentry, welding, mechanics, roofing, plumbing, and electrical repair.
Thorough knowledge of preventive maintenance and cleaning of all equipment used in the execution of daily duties.
Ability to read, comprehend, understand, and comply with both oral and written instructions.
Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret procedures in technical manuals and repair manuals.
Ability to determine when pavement conditions of runways and taxiways meet safety standards.
Ability to effectively and safely perform two-way communications with air traffic controllers and pilots using FAA-approved phonetic alphabet, terminology, and language.
Education and
Experience:
One to three years prior experience in related fields is required.
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Licenses and Certifications:
Georgia or Alabama State Driver's License and CLEAN MVR.
Ability to be an insured driver for the Airport.
(REQUIRED) Airport Wildlife Hazard Management Certification (Required within 12 months) Basic ASOS Airfield Safety and Operations School (Preferred) Airfield Pavement and Markings Certification Course (Preferred) AAAE A.
